What is not included in a Funeral Plan?

Posted: 18/06/2018

At the best of times, death can be a tricky topic to cover, particularly if you are discussing your own death. However, not doing so can seriously cost you. Failing to think about how you will cover your funeral costs can cause financial stress down the line as well as family distress.

It is no secret that funeral prices have been on the rise for some time now. The price has in fact risen 90pc in the last decade, this means that the average price of a funeral now costs a Brit £3,693. It has been estimated that by the year 2020 the cost of a simple funeral could reach a mind-blowing £5,226. This is not including the additional costs, and with these, we could be looking at £7,000. In short, it is becoming far too expensive to die in the UK.

Because of the rising cost, many people are looking for an alternative. One option is a funeral plan, which offers you the option to pay for your future funeral now at whatever today’s price is, no matter when your funeral should occur. You will be paying for your funeral in agreed monthly instalments so there is no pressure to pay for it in one lump sum.

Like with any kind of plan, there different levels and conditions depending on how much you are willing to spend. The cheapest plans will obviously only cover the basics, including these an inexpensive coffin and the services of a funeral director, but more can be added if you have further preferences.

In this guide, we will be looking at what a plan does not cover so that you are not left in the dark. It is highly unlikely that a funeral plan will cover everything and your family may still need to contribute – but all in all, it will be significantly less than waiting. So, let’s look at some providers and see what their different plans cover.

With a funeral plan, it is important, therefore, to work out in advance what you do want and what you do not necessarily require. This way you can determine whether taking out a funeral plan will actually save you money at the end of the day.
